Thank you to everyone for trying out this past week. Please note that next fall players could potentially be moved from one team to another (within their age bracket), before the league rosters are finalized, to account for attrition and, in rare cases, performance or attendance issues.

The tryout evaluation process is never a simple one, and the Mamaroneck Youth Hockey Association takes it very seriously. We have over time tried to improve our evaluation process to eliminate as much subjectivity as possible and evaluate the players on a blind basis. Evaluators are given a spreadsheet with jersey numbers only - no player names - and are asked to group the players by skill, hockey sense and work ethic. No parent coaches were allowed to evaluate their son’s or daughter’s age group with the only exception being two members of the M.Y.H.A. Coaching Committee (and even then the process for the evaluation of their sons was blind as the coaches were asked to leave the room during the discussion of their sons’ tryout performances). This year we also had former professional players, college coaches and players as well as M.Y.H.A. coaches evaluating. We also take into account input and evaluations from the players’ previous coaches. While the process may not be a perfect one, every effort is made to try to give each player a complete and objective evaluation in order to group them at the proper level.

Our 3rd annual M.Y.H.A Spring Skills Clinic will be held this late-April and May. To register please e-mail myhaspringclinic@gmail.com with your child's name, birthdate, where they played last year and any special medical information. Cost of the clinic is $140 for M.Y.H.A. members and $190 for non-M.Y.H.A. members. All players must be U.S.A. Hockey registered.

The Cut Hut, our convenient skate sharpening service located in the Hommocks Rink, has re-opened for 2011-2012. The fee is $7 per pair of hockey skates, or $10 per pair of goalie or figure skates. Cut Hut Cards are $65 for 10 sharpenings of hockey skates (a $5 savings), or $45 for 5 sharpenings of goalie or figure skates (a $5 savings). We're open to the public. 2011-2012 Highlights

Congratulations to the following teams:

Mite Tigers:

N.E.S.C. March Classic Tournament Mite B division champions. The tournament was held from 03/02 through 03/04 at New England Sports Center in Marlborough, MA. The Tigers went 4-0, beating the WHK Hawks in the finals.

Peewee Tigers:

International Silver Stick Northeast Regional Tournament Peewee Major A division champions. The tournament was held from 09/30 through 10/02 at Ice Line Rinks in West Chester, PA. The Tigers went 6-0, beating the Flyers Youth in the finals. They went on to the International Silver Stick Finals Tournament in Port Huron, MI from 01/26 through 01/29 and competed against championship teams from other regions around the US and Canada, where they went 1-2. They are the first M.Y.H.A. team to win a International Silver Stick regional qualifier and progress to a finals tournament. Large photo.

Ice House Thanksgiving Classic Peewee A division champions. The tournament was held from 11/25 through 11/27 at the Ice House in Hackensack, NJ. The Tigers went 4-0, beating the Montclair Blues in a shoot-out in the finals.

N.E.S.C. March Classic Tournament Peewee A division champions. The tournament was held from 03/02 through 03/04 at New England Sports Center in Marlborough, MA. The Tigers went 4-0, beating the N.J. Bandits in the finals.

Peewee Cubs:

N.E.S.C. March Classic Tournament Peewee C division champions. The tournament was held from 03/02 through 03/04 at New England Sports Center in Marlborough, MA. The Cubs went 4-0, beating the Westchester Mariners in the finals. Large photo.
